The Serra do Roncador is a waterfall factory: the edge of the plateau pours dozens of falls into the valleys running down to the Araguaia, most of them on farms with cheap access (R$ 10-40) and almost no line. We have picked the ones worth the detour, in order of priority — the logistics of the region are in the Serra do Roncador guide.
1. Cachoeira Azul (Fazenda Recanto da Serra)
The star of the range: a high fall dropping into a pool of unreal blue-green, framed by cliffs. A trail of around 40 minutes with sections of steps. Go early: the morning light switches on the blue of the pool.
2. Canyon do Cipó
A sequence of turquoise pools squeezed into a narrow corridor of rock — you walk INSIDE the canyon, with the walls an arm’s length away. One of the most photogenic experiences in the Center-West outside the famous circuit.
3. Pé da Serra (Parque Estadual da Serra Azul)
Inside the free park at Barra do Garças: an easily reached fall, ideal for the first day, combined with the Cristo viewpoint — the view that takes in three towns at once.
4. The falls at the top of the range
Climbing the MT-100 towards the plateau, farms keep veils, pools and rock walls with names that change according to the owner — ask at your guesthouse which are open in your week. This is the “exploration” part of the itinerary: dirt roads, farm gates, cattle grids and a reward without an audience.
How to arrange the days
| Day | Combination |
|---|---|
| 1 | Serra Azul (Cristo + Pé da Serra) + Águas Quentes late in the afternoon |
| 2 | Cachoeira Azul (morning) + Canyon do Cipó (afternoon) |
| 3 | Farms at the top of the range + sunset at the viewpoint |
🥾 Who is it for?
Effort: moderate — trails of 30 minutes to 2 hours out to the falls. Children: from age 8; the wide pools reward the walk. Older travelers and people with reduced mobility: choose the falls with parking close by — the local guides know which ones they are.
