Lagoa Misteriosa: Floating Over a 220-Meter Abyss in Jardim (MS)

Type: Lagoon Destination: Jardim

There is a moment at the Lagoa Misteriosa when every ecotourist feels the same shiver: you float in water with 60 meters of visibility, look down, and watch the blue darken into… nothing. The bottom never appears because nobody has ever found it — technical dives have passed 220 meters and the lake keeps going down. This guide explains how to live the experience, from snorkel to tank. The regional context is in the Jardim guide.

The experiences and prices (2026)

ExperiencePriceRequirements
Snorkeling (1h40-2h)R$ 270 (low) – R$ 298 (high season)From age 5; being able to float helps, the life jacket guarantees it
Discovery dive (~10 m)R$ 490From age 10, no certification needed
Certified dive (up to 25 m)ask the operatorsCertification required; another level of blue
Optional lunch at the reserve~R$ 96—
Mind the season: between October and April algae growth can close snorkeling and discovery dives — when in doubt, favor May to September.

Is it worth it if you have already snorkeled a river?

It is — because it is a different experience. A river is horizontal: shoals, current, landscape going past. The lagoon is vertical: silence, depth, the good kind of vertigo. The fish are the supporting cast; the protagonist is the blue abyss. Many ecotourists leave saying it was the most striking moment of their trip to Mato Grosso do Sul — especially those who take the discovery dive and drop 10 m along the wall of the shaft.

Smart logistics: the lagoon sits on the road to the Rio da Prata, so you can snorkel the river in the morning and the lagoon in the afternoon, sleeping in Jardim. The comparison of bases helps you decide where to stay.

Its twin on the other side of the state border is the Dolina da Água Milagrosa, near Cáceres (MT): the same limestone geology, another abyss with no measured bottom.

🥾 Who is it for?

Effort: light for snorkeling; moderate for the tank dive (a lake of abyssal depth). Children: snorkeling from age 5; discovery dives from age 10; autonomous dives require certification (operator rules). Older travelers and people with reduced mobility: snorkeling is workable with support from the team; the beauty starts right at the surface.
