Brotas: Complete Guide to the Capital of Adventure

State: São Paulo

If Brazil has one town that made adrenaline its surname, it is Brotas: the Capital of Adventure in the interior of São Paulo state, 240 km from the state capital, where the clear Rio Jacaré-Pepira draws 14 rapids between sandstone cuestas, around 70 waterfalls dot the municipality and the adventure parks stack up zip lines, tree-top courses and canyoning for every level.

The river that started it all

Rafting on the Jacaré-Pepira (~R$ 150) was a Brazilian pioneer in the 1990s and is still the experience that sums the town up — details in the article on rafting in Brotas. For gentler versions: river tubing, canoeing and stand-up paddle on the same river, awarded the title of the cleanest in São Paulo.

Waterfalls and parks

  • Parque dos Saltos — free and right in the center: walkways over the river falls, the town’s welcome card.
  • Cassorova — the 60 m fall and the temple of canyoning and rappelling.
  • Três Quedas — a trio of waterfalls (Andorinha, Figueira, Nascente) in a single park.
  • Areia que Canta — a spring of crystalline sand that “sings” underfoot, a light and curious outing.
  • Adventure parks — zip lines, tree-top courses, pendulum swings and mega swings for testing your own limit.

Logistics

Agencies in the center put together packages (adventure + waterfall + transport); book rafting the day before on public holidays. Three to five days make good use of the menu; the craft beer and restaurant scene grows every year to round off the evenings. Best period: March-May for balanced water levels, September-November for livelier rapids.

🥾 Who is it for?

Effort: you build your own menu — from the Parque dos Saltos (light) to canyoning at the Cassorova (intense). Children: Brotas is a benchmark for family adventure: river tubing and children’s tree-top courses from ages 4-5; rafting generally 7-8+ on the gentler stretches. Older travelers and people with reduced mobility: the Parque dos Saltos with its walkways and the Areia que Canta are accessible; several operators adapt activities — and neighboring Socorro, a national benchmark in adapted adventure, completes the itinerary for anyone who needs full support.
